Arrogant, whiny protagonist, and we have to suffer through him in first person. He whines that he can't sell his first novel -- endlessly.
Mitch Samuel has just had the worse day of his life. He was dumped by his girlfriend.
I expected funny, sexy and romantic, and I got those things. I didn't expect reflective and insightful, but I got those things, too.
Dan's book is completely engaging and I laughed out loud and I even cried--well, I got misty-eyed. I have read other chick-lits this summer (My Husband Ran Away with the Nanny and God do I Miss Her and Lovehampton) and this is by far the best one.
What's this? Chick-lit written by a man?
I sometimes feel embarrassed when I go to write a review and the first thing in my mind is, "Don't forget to mention that odd quibble you had with fact X!" I sometimes have a compulsive need to correct people, which my friends fortunately find adorable.
Forget the pink slippers that adorn the cover and the cute title that screams out 'Chick Lit'...Begley has taken this genre to another level by giving us the man's perspective in a genre normally dominated by whimsical 20 something females.
Fully prepared to stick with the tried-and-true NYT bestseller when searching for my vaca read, I decided to go off the reservation and give someone new a shot. I chose Ms.
[[ASIN:0446506184 Ms. Taken Identity]] Well written, funny, well developed characters.....
I only write reviews now and then but this book drove me to this. I really wanted to love this book, but the author totally missed the mark over and over again.
This is a GREAT summer read, which I will recommend to all my friends. I am a woman (what girl calls herself a chick?
Mr. Begley did a terrific job with this fun and enjoyable first novel.
Excellent book from a great new author. I have read many chic-lit books and this is much smarter than most.
I really would have liked to say this was 3.5 stars.
PhD candidate Mitch Samuel writes an epic tale about life on the farm, but like all his other manuscripts, the publishing industry rejects it. He explodes ripping each paper of his book and a magazine owned by a neighbor.
