Great Portuguese book, but the physical state of the book is horrible. All of the pages fall out so easily!.
The first time I opened the book, I heard a couple of cracking sounds and found that those pages were loosened from the binding. The second time, a few more cracks, until at last, pages began falling out of the book.
It doesn't really have great grammatical explanations and handles more as a workbook with small grammar bits here and there.
For beginner, intermediate, and some advanced content, I would recommend the book and accommodating workbook called Ponto de Encontro being the Brazilian version. For a continuation book that includes intermediate to advanced content, this is definitely the book to use as it contains many useful concepts that might be skipped over in Ponto de Encontro in addition to the full-fledged advanced book Modern Brazilian Portuguese by John Whitlam.
This is an excellent choice for you if you are looking (as I was) for a fairly complete treatment of Portuguese grammar at an intermediate to advanced level. The authors do a great job of explaining subtle grammatical points such that one can understand why things work a certain way in Portuguese as opposed to English.
I bought it for the course I am in at a University. So, it was exactly what I needed.
I do have the older edition, but when the book fell apart, I did get another one. I like this book especially because it will say and spell out difference in Portuguese from Portugue to Brazil.
This textbook is excellent. Be advised however that this is in fact a textbook, designed for serious college level learning in a classroom environment.
"Para a frente" does not include the answers to the book's practice exercises. This makes it useless for independent study.
This book is absolutely top notch in its exposition of the finer points of Portuguese grammar and (with a nice emphasis on Brazilian) vocabulary. A must have for those seek to polish their Portuguese.
Para a Frente! is a second-year Portuguese textbook for college-level students.
