I watched the film not knowing what it was about and only picked up that it was a Morrissey biopic as it progressed. I'm glad I watched it because I've never got on with Morrissey or the Smiths.
It is a good start i tell you that. Let's make it a trilogy: right after this its the smiths and the third is the solo.
This film follows a young Stephen Morrissey around Manchester, while he mopes and pouts for 6 years before he decides to slick his hair up and front The Smiths.The movie ends where is really should have begun, that is the birth of the band he is well know for.
I gave this a go as I thought Morrisey was boring and depressing like every body else, I wanted to see why and also if this film could change my mind about him and his music. Dont get me wrong the music the Smiths made was good, some very good.
I hate Morrissey and this "portrayal" of him made me hate him even more. Actor did not act or look like home but he got the mopeyness and self loathing down.
As most people have said this could have been about anyone not just Morrissey because there is nothing really interesting going on and the film isn't heavy on the Smiths music or their success. Perfect film to make you sleepy before bed, surely the film makers could have come up with something more interesting about the Smiths journey than this?
Watching a movie about the beginning of the Smiths with zero Smiths songs in it because Morrissey being Morrissey won't let them. I don't know why they even made the movie considering.
