Like so many "sequels," this a horrible attempt. It's a garbage movie, for garbage people.
The movie Jarhead is still recognized, as one of the most important films directed by Sam Mendes. The movie is based on the memoir of the marine Anthony Swofford, who got through a harsh training, and later on, he survived in the desert during the gulf war.

Wanted to like it as i like the cast, but big disappointment. It just dragged on and on....
*May contain spoilers*Well, the acting was bad, the props were all around wrong and not true to facts, very cheesy and wouldn't recommend it. I think the story could have been better put together, it had potential but I didn't feel much emotion in the "emotional" scenes, overall shallow characters, inaccurate props and just not very good.
I'm not a fan of war movies, esp B-types, but this movie was a bit above-average, the storyline wasn't original but it was engaging. The characters weren't much developed but you'll find yourself rooting for them most of the time, the acting was quite good from all the cast.
The second "Jarhead" chapter is interesting just to understand (and condemn) american war rhetoric. Meeting the different (Talibans) means only choose among it what is american-oriented and promote it.
This is full of spoilers so don't read it if you want to watch this, but in my humble opinion it does not matter. It is a good ride if you want action but reasons goes out the window from moment go.
You should note that this is like a vast majority of Hollywood movies - it is a work of fiction designed to provide entertainment to the masses.As a Marine combat veteran, I have yet to see many fictional war movies that are realistic.
